What is 60-70% Tree-Free?
At Emerald Brand, we are committed to helping families and
businesses live a greener life. We offer a wide range of emerald brand collection products,
using Tree Free materials whenever possible. 60-70% Tree-Free Products are truly emerald brand collection, as they are made from a natural plant material called Bagasse.
What is Bagasse? Bagasse (pron.: /bəˈɡs/ bə-gas) is the fibrous matter that remains after sugarcane or sorghum stalks are crushed to extract their juice. It is currently used as a biofuel and in the manufacture of pulp and paper products and building materials.

The benefits of 60-70% Tree-Free (Bagasse) Products
- The production of Bagasse requires no additional
land conversion from wild lands to agricultural land because Bagasse is a waste
product.
- Using a waste product reduces pressure on
farmers to convert wild lands to agricultural lands because it increases the
value of their current crop production
- 60-70% Tree-Free material is more rapidly renewable
than tree based paper because sugar cane grows to maturity within 12 months
compared to at least 20 years for most trees
- 60-70% Tree-Free paper products use less energy and chemicals
to produce than tree based paper because Bagasse contains less lignin or the
glues in all plant matter
- Tree-Free products are able to be recycled with
normal paper products.

How are 60-70% Tree-Free paper products manufactured? Sugar cane fiber bagasse tableware and paper products are made by pressing
the pulp with intense pressure and high temperatures to a mold form. It is
sterilized and sanitized and conforms to U.S. Food & Drug Administration
(U.S. FDA) guidelines.
A Note About Bagasse
Although
this product is made from sugarcane, no sweetness will transfer to your food.
These products hold both hot and cold foods and liquids without any trouble,
yet break down easily after being thrown away.
